From her celebrated "Connections" series, this is "Connections nr.1," an ethereal mixed-media sculpture by Laura Alunni. The artwork conveys a serene yet powerful sense of upward motion, as a spiraling column of transparent perspex rises from a solid acrylic base like a plume of smoke or a current of water.

Connections Nr.1

I am fascinated by the genesis of an idea. That first, fragile moment before it has a name or a clear form. This work is my attempt to give that single instant a body.

For me, every new idea is a dialogue between what I know and what I can only imagine. That’s why I chose ceramic for the base. It has the weight of the earth, of memory, of all the work that has come before. It is the grounded question. The what if? Floating above it is the idea itself, a form of idealized blue; perfect, untouched, and still free from the constraints of reality.

But the heart of the work is the twisting, translucent Plexiglas that connects them. That is the true luminous event. It is the invisible made visible: the electric leap of intuition, the sudden, sharp clarity when thought becomes vision. It’s the trace of that first connection taking hold, asking to grow.

This sculpture is not about its separate parts. It is about the sacred, fleeting space between them, where everything new begins.
