Connections Nr. 5
This series of works, Connections, began with a single question: how do you give form to a memory that is both a wound and a treasure?
For me, the answer had to start with the past. The rough ceramic at the center of this piece is that origin point. I needed its earthy, grounding weight to represent the unspoken moment that started it all.
But memories are never that simple. From that core, the facets of feeling radiate and tangle together. A deep, lingering blue of sorrow is shot through with a burgundy of stubborn love, and both are held in the strange, royal purple of emotional alchemy.
And the clear Plexiglas that binds them? That is the moment of acceptance. The shimmer of awareness when you look at the whole beautiful, difficult structure and realize you don’t have to separate the joy from the pain. It is the electric tension of holding both at once, and knowing that this very complexity is what it means to be whole.
