There comes a point in the studio when you realize you are no longer creating, but repeating. Following invisible rules. This work is about the moment I saw one of those rules, a red line I had drawn for myself, and made the decision to cross it.
A tension was building on the canvas, a form pushing against its own limits. For a long time, I respected that boundary, painting around it with control. Then, in a single instant, I loaded the brush and broke through. Those marks that now reach into the white are the evidence of that choice. They are the feeling of a self-imposed limit dissolving.
This work is no longer about the struggle. It is about the liberation that followed. A record of the instant an artist chooses freedom over habit.
