On the long journey
Some works begin not with a destination, but with a departure. This was one of them. The title, Verso il lungo viaggio, did not come at the start, but as a recognition at the end.
I began in darkness, with a silent, empty space. From that void, guided only by intuition, forms began to surface. I remember the greens, mixed from the memory of the untamed Umbrian landscape outside my studio. The flashes of blue were not planned; they were sudden glimpses of sky through a dense forest canopy. The work grew organically, like something alive. I had to learn to follow where it wanted to go, to trust the process without knowing the end.
It is a piece that, for me, holds the truth of any creative act. That the real journey isn’t the passage from a blank canvas to a finished work, but the willingness to step into the darkness and trust that a world is waiting to emerge.
