The artwork "Green Life" by Laura Alunni: a wall sculpture composed of fractured green panels

Green Life

Some truths only reveal themselves through contrast.

Last spring, near my home in Perugia, I saw the spirit of Umbria distilled into a single moment: a blood-red poppy screaming from a sea of green wheat. Not asking permission. Not blending in. Just being, with such fierce authenticity it almost hurt to look away.

This work is that heartbeat.

The fractured green planes are our hills, our traditions, the comfortable rhythms we know by heart. But the red triangle is the part of us that refuses to be tamed. The Plexiglas lightning strike is the electric jolt of a sudden realization: true belonging doesn’t mean disappearing.

I believe art isn't decoration; it’s a mirror with the courage to talk back. It should hold those raw, unscripted moments, the ones with so much fierce life they make your throat tighten. That, for me, is the only magic worth chasing.
